'Shōgun' delivered the big wins tonight
Japanese-language TV series “Shōgun” dominated the drama series categories at the Emmy Awards tonight, winning four categories: best drama, best directing for a drama series, outstanding lead actor in a drama series and outstanding lead actress in a drama series. The show took home more Emmys than any other production.
“Shōgun,” a historical fiction that depicts a 17th century feudal Japan that’s in the midst of a civil war, almost set the Emmys record this year with 25 total nominations. That number has been exceeded only once: in 2019, when “Game of Thrones” received 32 nominations.

'Hacks' producer hails comedy's ability to bridge divides
After "Hacks" upset "The Bear" to win the Emmy for outstanding comedy series, one of the show's executive producers, Jen Statsky, praised the genre's ability to "bridge divides."
"When you laugh with someone, you have something in common with them," Statsky said in her acceptance speech. "It speaks true to power, so support your local comedian."
The win came after some viewers disputed the categorization of "The Bear," the high-octane series that won the top award last year, as a comedy.
Before she left the stage, Statsky added, "We have to go, because we start shooting the next season in five days!"
Emmys red carpet looks: Jennifer Aniston, Naomi Watts, Nava Mau and more
It was a who's who of Hollywood stars on the red carpet for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards tonight in Los Angeles. It wasn't just about the best television of the year; all eyes were on the fashion, too. The evening was all about strapless and sequined gowns.
It was a Rose family reunion!
Annie Murphy, who played Alexis Rose on "Schitt's Creek," joined the Levy hosts, who played Johnny Rose and David Rose on the acclaimed comedy, to introduce Catherine O'Hara, who played Moira Rose, as she was set to announce the winner for best comedy. The four then closed out the show together before the Bob Newhart theme song played out.
“Hacks,” a biting show business satire, wins best comedy series. It’s a big upset over “The Bear,” the show widely expected to triumph in this category tonight.
“Shōgun” wins best drama series. The series nabbed four awards tonight.
'West Wing' stars are back
Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Janel Moloney, Richard Schiff and Martin Sheen reunited onstage to celebrate the 25th anniversary of NBC's seminal political drama "The West Wing."
"It's hard to believe that just 25 years ago, Aaron [Sorkin] and the writers actually had to use their imaginations to create interesting plotlines for 'The West Wing,'" Janney joked.
We need more of the Levys
Before diving right into these serious categories, we could have used a little jokey moment from Dan and Eugene. Just a suggestion for next time.
