The Dallas Cowboys won their seventh straight game against the New York Giants on Thursday, defeating their division rival on the road 20-15.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott completed 22 of 27 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yard scoring connection with CeeDee Lamb in the first half. And the Dallas defense bent but never broke, allowing only five field goals.
The Giants actually played a great game — until it came time to get into the end zone. New York had more first downs, passing yards and total yards than the Cowboys. The Giants also dominated the time of possession, holding on to the ball for 35 minutes and 37 seconds.
But New York couldn’t finish drives. The Giants settled for five field goals every time they drove into Dallas territory, including twice in the red zone.
New York’s first drive out of halftime was particularly disheartening. The Giants drove 77 yards in 11 plays over six minutes and 18 seconds. But after getting all the way to the three-yard-line, they elected to kick a short field goal instead of going for it on 4th-and-goal.
The lack of aggression cost New York, which scored only three points the rest of the half.
While the Giants had success passing, the Cowboys held them to only 1.1 yards per carry on the ground.
Dallas scored both its touchdowns in the first half before adding two field goals in the second. Kicker Brandon Aubrey was 2 of 3 — he missed for the first time in his career from over 50 yards late in the fourth.
Two stars also left the game during the final quarter. Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons was carted off following the Giants’ second to last drive after getting tangled up with multiple offensive linemen on a third-down pass rush. And New York star rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a concussion one play after Parsons left the game.
The Cowboys improved to 2-2 with the win. The Giants are now 1-3.
Malik Nabers left with a concussion
Giants receiver Malik Nabers was not on the field for the team’s last possession because he suffered a concussion on New York’s previous drive.
He finished the game with 12 catches for 115 yards.
Daniel Jones picked off, the Cowboys win
Daniel Jones was picked off throwing deep and that will do it.
Amani Oruwariye intercepted the pass, Dallas kneeled it on the next play and that ends the game.
The Cowboys win 20-15, improving to 2-2.
The Giants are now 1-3.
Brandon Aubrey missed a kick!
Brandon Aubrey just missed his first kick from over 50 yards.
It’s a wild time for his first miss from that distance.
The Giants will now have a chance to win the game.
Malik Nabers taken back to locker room
Giants receiver Malik Nabers was injured on 4th down on the Giants’ most recent drive. After being observed by trainers on the sideline, he was taken to the locker room.
To add insult to injury, New York has no timeouts left and the Cowboys have the ball on the other side of the two-minute warning.
Cowboys’ Micah Parsons carted off
After leaving the game before a key fourth-down play, Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons was observed in the blue medical tent and then carted off the field into the locker room. Still no word on the type of injury.
Giants can’t convert on fourth down
New York went for it on 4th-and-6 from the Dallas 45 but couldn’t convert. Daniel Jones scrambled to his left and tried to find Malik Nabers on the sideline but he couldn’t reel in the pass.
The Cowboys take over with a 20-15 lead.
New York has two timeouts left and there are over three minutes left in the game.
Micah Parsons leaves game for second time
After a failed third down by the Giants, Micah Parsons was attended to by trainers on the field before heading to the sideline.
Parsons was tangled up with a couple Giants offensive linemen as he hit the ground on the play. He was helped off the field and headed to the blue medical tent.
Parsons left the game earlier with a neck injury before returning.
Giants defense gets must-have stop
Dallas was driving, but after 10 plays the Cowboys had to settle for a field goal.
The Giants’ defense absolutely had to have that hold as a touchdown may have put the game out of reach.
New York will take over trailing 20-15 with under seven minutes to go. Can the Giants finally get into the end zone?
Trevon Diggs questionable to return
The Cowboys’ cornerback left with cramps and is questionable to return, per the broadcast.
Giants — wait for it — settle for a field goal
New York just kicked its fifth field goal of the game.
The Giants did seem to want to be aggressive on this drive, but after entering Dallas territory thanks to a fourth-down conversion, two straight negative plays ruined the drive.
The Cowboys now lead 17-15.
