An 11-year-old was arrested and accused of taking a gun to a Jacksonville, Florida, school last week, officials said.
Three students told a teacher at Beauclerc Elementary School that the 11-year-old had a 9 mm handgun on Feb. 5, the Jacksonville County Sheriff's Office said in an arrest report.
The child was seen in the bathroom racking the slide of the handgun and waving it around, the witnesses told the teacher, the report said. School staff members found the weapon when they searched the child's belongings, it said.
A Duval School Board police officer found a text on the child's phone threatening to kill someone sent the day before, authorities said.
The child was arrested and was being held at the Duval Regional Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of possessing a weapon on school property and sending a written threat to kill, according to the arrest report.
It's not clear whether the child has an attorney. NBC News doesn't usually name minors charged with crimes.
