Amazon Prime Video series "The Boys" has changed the title of its season finale and issued a disclaimer about depictions of political violence following news of the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
"The Boys" is a satirical show about individuals with superpowers who abuse their abilities, and the CIA-sponsored vigilante group tasked with taking them down.
The fourth season of the show ended Wednesday with a finale originally titled "Assassination Run." The episode features an assassination plot and political violence as a fictional version of the United States descends into martial law.
The title of the episode was changed to "Season Four Finale" on Amazon Prime. It opens with a disclaimer condemning "real-world violence of any kind."
"This episode contains scenes of fictional political violence," the message reads. "Any similarities to recent events are completely coincidental and unintentional."
"The Boys" is known for its sharp political commentary. Several critics felt that season four referenced the fears many voters have about Project 2025, the governing plan developed by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. Project 2025 lays out plans to reduce government oversight, further restrict abortion access, crack down on immigration and shut down initiatives designed to address the impacts of climate change, among other conservative goals.
The official Instagram accounts for "The Boys" and Prime Video released a similar statement acknowledging that the episode may be disturbing to some viewers following the attempt on Trump's life.
Trump was the target of an assassination attempt during a campaign rally Saturday. The former president said in a Truth Social post that a bullet “pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
Rally attendee Corey Comperatore, 50, was shot and killed. Two other Pennsylvania residents were also shot at the rally and are in serious condition.
Trump made his first public appearance since Saturday's assassination attempt at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday. He is expected to deliver his keynote speech and formally accept the GOP presidential nomination at the convention Thursday.
