When Craig Spencer showed up at Bellevue, Dr. Laura Evansthe lead physician on his casethought he was another fake. I responded to what I thought was another of many Ebola practice drills we have had over the past several months, she said. It took a full half-hour before Evans realized she was treating an actual Ebola case, partly because there had been so many test runs and partly because, in the weeks before Spencer’s case, a handful of people had come in with symptomspersons under investigationand been quickly cleared. After Spencer was released with a clean bill of health, he thanked Evans. [Evans] has been with me every day, he said at a press conference, and the two embracedwith no hazmat suits in sight.
