Matchmaker Amy Van Doran makes it a point to work with clients she calls �outliers.� In other words, post-20-something women�and sometimes men�who could get lost in the mêlée of OkCupid and Tinder. She takes on 18 clients at a time who pay $15,000 for six months of dates selected from a curated Rolodex of about 5,000 people. Currently, she’s looking for a match for a woman we’ll call Laura�in her 30s, beautiful, the creative director of a successful start-up. �This is the problem of being so amazing,� says Van Doran. �It’s hard to find good people.� She starts to narrow down the dossiers. �This guy tends to go for younger women � This guy is just too much of an opposite to attract.� In ten minutes, she’s landed on a man we’ll call Ben: worldly, well employed, wants kids, and likes women who are smarter than he is. Van Doran seems pleased with herself: �I might have just made a power couple.�
