Britain is bracing for the worst storm in a decade, with heavy rain and hurricane-force winds of more than 80 miles (130 kilometres) an hour set to batter the south of the country. The storm, named St. Jude after the patron saint of lost causes is set to peak in the early hours of the Saint’s feast day which is Monday. An amber alert was issued and residents were asked to prepare by lashing down lawn furniture and preparing for power outages and possible evacuations.
