Four suspects were arrested and charged in connection with the home invasion slaying of a New Jersey detective this month, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Detective Sgt. Monica Mosley worked in the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office before she "was killed in her home during a violent" attack in Bridgeton on Oct. 15, prosecutors in Cape May County said in a statement.
"Detective Monica Mosley was a dedicated public servant who devoted her life to protecting the community," the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.
"Her untimely death has left a profound impact on her family, colleagues, and the entire community she served with honor and integrity."
Nyshawn Mutcherson, 29, of Vineland; Jarred Brown, 31, of Bridgeton; and Richard B. Hawkins Willis, 32, of Gloucester City, were arrested and charged with numerous counts, including first-degree murder, prosecutors said.
Cyndia E. Pimentel, 38, of Paulsboro, was arrested and accused of hindering an investigation, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
It wasn't immediately clear Tuesday whether the four suspects had hired or been assigned defense lawyers to speak on their behalf.
“This is a significant step toward justice for Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley and her family,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said in a statement. “We are resolute in our commitment to ensuring that those responsible for this horrific act are held accountable.
"Our hearts remain with Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley’s loved ones and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” Sutherland said.
