Arizona man tried to kill case worker during meeting about daughter, officials say

Deandre Terrell Johnson has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and unlawful flight from law enforcement, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

An Arizona man has been charged with attempted murder after officials say he tried to kill a child safety case worker during a discussion about his child.

Deandre Terrell Johnson, 32, attempted to strangle a Department of Child Safety case worker “until the victim lost consciousness” after a meeting involving his daughter, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said.

Johnson fled and was later apprehended by Mesa police, prosecutors said.

An attorney listed for Johnson in the indictment was not immediately reached for comment on Friday afternoon.

Johnson has been charged with attempt to commit first-degree murder; aggravated assault and unlawful flight from law enforcement. He was also charged with four misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, prosecutors said.

He is being held in jail on $500,000 bond, according to prosecutors.

Attempts to reach a representative with the Department of Child Safety were unsuccessful Friday.
