Two women were sexually assaulted Thursday morning in New York City, police said.
The first incident involved a woman in her 20s who was attacked just before 7:30 a.m. while jogging near Central Park’s iconic Wollman Rink, the New York City Police Department said.
Police said a man wearing all black approached the woman from behind, grabbed her and choked her until she passed out.
He then sexually assaulted her and fled, police said in a statement. The woman was stable when she was taken to a local hospital.
The second incident occurred about 45 minutes later, according to an NYPD tweet. The woman was on a footpath near the Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive when she was sexually assaulted, authorities said. A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with that assault.
No arrests have been made in the first incident. Police are trying to determine if the two assaults are connected.
