A man shot and killed one Dallas officer and wounded two others Thursday night in what police said was a premeditated shooting.

Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, was fatally shot in a hail of gunfire after he confronted pursuing officers with a shotgun following the shootings, police said Friday.

The incident began shortly after 10 p.m. local time when Cobb-Bey pulled into the parking lot of a community organization in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, police said.

Minutes later, Officer Darron Burks parked at the location in between call assignments and Cobb-Bey approached him and spoke with him through the driver-side window. Cobb-Bey recorded the encounter on a cellphone, police said.

Cobb-Bey then pulled out a handgun and fatally shot Burks, police said.

A police dispatcher noticed an unusual transmission from Burks' radio. After unsuccessfully trying to contact him, the dispatcher sent officers to check on Burks, police said.

While this occurred, Cobb-Bey took a shotgun from his vehicle and placed it on the roof of Burks' squad car, police said.

At 10:11 p.m., Sr. Cpl. Jamie Farmer pulled into the parking lot and was immediately met by gunfire from Cobb-Bey's handgun, police said.

Farmer returned fire and started running. Cobb-Bey fired the shotgun, striking Farmer in the leg, police said.

Sr. Cpl. Karissa David arrived a minute later and positioned her squad car at the parking lot's entrance. Cobb-Bey ran toward David and shot her multiple times as she got out of the vehicle, police said.

David returned fire and was shot in the face, according to police.

Cobb-Bey fled onto northbound Interstate 35 and was being pursued by officers when he stopped near Highway 121 in Lewisville, a city about 30 miles north of Dallas, police said.

Cobb-Bey got out of the vehicle with the shotgun in one hand and approached officers, pointing the weapon at them. Six officers fired their weapons, striking him multiple times and killing him, police said.

Farmer was treated and released from the hospital Friday, and David remains in critical but stable condition, police said.

No officers were injured in the final exchange of gunfire.

Police said the shootings appear to be premeditated and detectives said they found evidence on social media.

Police also recovered a .22-caliber handgun and a 9mm handgun used by the suspect, officials said.

The Dallas Police Department's special investigations unit and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
