A child was critically injured when a school bus with 31 people on board crashed on a New Jersey highway and overturned Monday night, officials said.
New Jersey State troopers responded to the crash on Garden State Parkway in Montvale, Bergen County at around 7:39 p.m. The bus was traveling from New Jersey to New York, said the mayor of Montvale.
"In the area of milepost 170.5, the bus traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned," New Jersey State Police said in a statement.
A total of 15 people were injured in the crash, including a child who sustained serious injuries, 13 other children with minor injuries and the 44-year-old bus driver with moderate injuries, according to police.
Thirteen people were taken to local hospitals, Mayor Mike Ghassali said, including the child in critical condition.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families during this difficult time,” Ghassali said.
The crash happened near the James Gandolfini Service Area in Montvale, Gov. Phil Murphy said on X.
The investigation into the crash was ongoing, he said.
