Louisiana State University sophomore cornerback Javien Toviano was arrested Sunday and accused of video voyeurism, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Toviano, 19, is accused of recording himself having sex with his girlfriend without her consent.
According to the arrest warrant, Toviano used a clock with a built-in hidden camera to secretly record the couple having sex.
Authorities said the victim told investigators that she tried to discuss the recordings with Toviano but that he refused to speak with her about them.
The victim also told investigators that Toviano had secretly recorded them having sex in the past and that she had informed him she didn’t consent to that.
According to the warrant, Toviano admitted in an interview that he used a hidden camera inside a clock to record himself and his girlfriend having sex without her consent. He told investigators that he would place the clock-camera on their dresser before they went to bed, authorities said.
If he is convicted, Toviano could face up to five years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender, according to the Legislature.
“The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities, in accordance with departmental policies,” LSU said in a statement.
“We will not have further comment out of respect for the legal process.”
Toviano, a mechanical engineering major, signed with LSU last year as a freshman and appeared in all 13 games, starting in three of the last five.
