TULSA, Okla. — Airport police in Tulsa shot and wounded a man after he opened fire on a car carrying his wife, whom he tried to confront in a parking garage after her flight landed, authorities said.

The Tulsa International Airport police were alerted about a shooting along the arrival roadways at 11:51 p.m. Tuesday night, airport spokesman Andrew Pierini told NBC News.

The woman was escorted to her brother’s car by airport police, but Tulsa police said her husband shot at them.

Officers responded to the scene and followed the suspect to the first level of the parking garage, Pierini said.

The suspect fired shots at the officers and one of the officers was struck in the chest, but the bullet hit his ballistic vest.

The officer returned fire and hit the suspect in the ankle, airport officials said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital, where he is being watched by the Tulsa Police department until he’s able to be booked, according to Pierini.

Authorities have not released his name or detailed any charges he may face.

The struck officer was also taken to the hospital and later released.

Earlier in the day, the Tulsa Police Department alerted airport authorities regarding a potential domestic dispute involving a woman who was arriving at the airport Tuesday evening, Pierini stated.

“Our police officers were on alert and were able to respond quickly,” Pierini said.

The woman and her brother weren’t hurt in the incident, authorities said.

Police said they were working to determine why the man was trying to confront his wife.
