A 23-year-old Maryland man was found dead while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas, police said Wednesday.

Dinari McAlmont, of Bowie, Maryland, was found unresponsive on a beach on Paradise Island on Saturday, according to a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force. A spokesperson for a local resort, Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas, confirmed Wednesday that one of its guests died.

Police said a postmortem examination revealed that McAlmont died as a result of drowning, adding that “foul play is not suspected at this time.”

“Further, police are still awaiting the forensic toxicology analysis, and investigations are ongoing,” police said.

However, the 23-year-old’s mother, Michelle McAlmont, told Eyewitness News Bahamas on Tuesday that her son’s face looked beaten when authorities showed her his body.

“I need justice for my baby,” she said through tears. “I need justice.”

McAlmont’s family could not be reached for comment.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the guest’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” a spokesperson for Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas said in a statement Wednesday.

The spokesperson added that the resort will not comment further while it awaits “police’s final report.”

In July, an American woman, Taylor Casey, went missing on Paradise Island while on a monthlong yoga retreat. Her whereabouts are still unknown.
