Jayson Scott, the son of rapper Remy Ma, was arrested on a first-degree murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting in Queens, New York, in 2021.
Scott, 23, was arrested and charged Tuesday in the fatal shooting of Darius Guillebeaux in Queens on June 7, 2021, New York police said in a statement. In addition to first-degree murder, Scott was charged with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
A representative for Ma and her son said in a statement that "very serious unfounded allegations" were made against Scott.
"Remy Ma wished to address this situation personally, but has been strongly advised by our office not to say anything publicly — as most people in this situation are, as the case is still active," the statement said. "To be clear, Jayson Scott is innocent and Remy Ma is committed to proving his innocence and fully supporting her child during this time."
Scott has not yet been arraigned, and court records were not available Thursday.
A second suspect, Richard Swygert, was also arrested on a murder charge, police said. A public defender for Swygert did not immediately reply to a call requesting comment.
Police said officers responded to a calls of shots fired at 148th Street and Rockaway Boulevard, outside John F. Kennedy Airport, on June 7, 2021. A 47-year-old man, later identified as Guillebeaux, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Local news site QNS reported at the time that Guillebeaux was seen arguing with two men before shots were fired.
Guillebeaux was named as one of 54 defendants in the New York attorney general's "Operation Heat Wave" in November 2020, a law enforcement bust focused on three drug trafficking rings. He was accused of being a narcotics source for a drug operation upstate.
