The Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert Monday for frozen, fully cooked Wegmans Food Markets breaded chicken breast nuggets over possible contamination with bone fragments.
The affected product has been identified as 46-ounce packages of “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat.” The best-if-used-by date, on the back of the packaging, is Aug. 26, 2025. The code “P-33944” is printed inside the Agriculture Department inspection seal on the packaging. The product was produced on Aug. 26, 2024, the public health agency said in the announcement.
The chicken nuggets were distributed to Wegmans locations in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C. A recall was not requested because the item is no longer available for purchase, the agency said.
The FSIS said it was notified after Wegmans received complaints from multiple consumers who encountered bone fragments in the product. The agency says there have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption.
"FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers," the announcement said. "Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it. This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."
Representatives for Wegmans did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
