Republican Mark Obenshain conceded the race for Virginia attorney general to Democrat Mark Herring.
A Republican source confirmed to First Read Obenshain's intention shortly before the 3 pm ET announcement. Herring's win gives Democrats control of all five statewide elected offices in Virginia for the first time since 1969.
The announcement took place at the General Assembly Building in Richmond, VA.
Herring went into a recount leading by 165 votes out of two million cast. Herring's lead grew after Fairfax County completed its recount.
First Read DMV: "Obenshain made the announcement following the release of the recount results in Fairfax County, which left Obenshain with 117,722 votes to Herring's 185,538. Fairfax County is Virginia's largest jurisdiction. The county's results represent an increase of 575 votes for Herring and an increase of 297 votes for Obenshain."
