40
Mercer Residences is a collaboration between hotelier André
Balazs and Paris-based architect Jean Nouvel. This 15-story
building in Soho will offer 40 lofts (averaging 2,800 sf),
a spa, pool and retail space. The modern glass exterior will
mirror the neighborhood’s classic architecture in a
beautiful way. According to Balazs, its style will be “brilliantly
contextual, tough and strong like Soho”.
“The qualities that make the neighborhood attractive
and fashionable are captured in the design and concept of
40 Mercer,” says Balazs. “One of the principal
features of Soho is the sense of light and air – a function
of its landmark status, which keeps buildings low and blocks
short – making it a singularly pleasant place to live.
40 Mercer will be the tallest building in the neighborhood,
and will include parking. It’ll have full concierge
service, room service at breakfast, personal shopping and
dog walking.” Sale prices have not yet been set.

“What
has always made for a fashionable address still holds true,”
says architect Costas Kondylis of Costas Kondylis and Partners. “That
is quality services, proximity to landmarks and civic gems such as
Central Park, and unique architecture like the industrial chic of
Tribeca or some of the more notable Fifth Avenue buildings. It’s
all about the energy of a beautiful setting.” |
