Lenny Kravitz, a man who recently got naked on camera, shared his struggles in the relationship department, saying he has been single and celibate for almost a decade.
Kravitz opened up about his personal life in an interview with The Guardian published Thursday, including his decision to go naked at age 60 in his new music video. Kravitz also confirmed that he was still committed to remaining celibate until he meets the right person.
"It’s a spiritual thing," he said.
It has been nine years since he has been in a relationship, and Kravitz credits discipline for his yearslong celibacy.
The news may be surprising for many, as Kravitz not only is regarded as extremely attractive by his fans, but he also went naked in his “TK421” music video last year. The video opens on him dancing in a bedroom without a stitch of clothing.
But Kravitz denied in the interview it was meant to be anything other than fun, saying he has never really been a person who looked in the mirror and thought, “you’re so beautiful.”
“We’re having fun, I’m singing into a toothbrush, dancing around the bathroom. It wasn’t the energy of: ‘Ooh, let’s be sexy,’” he said.
He said the decision to be single and celibate was entirely personal.
Kravitz connected his struggles in relationships to discovering his father's infidelity when he was younger. His father told him he would end up doing the same thing, Kravitz said.
Unfortunately for Kravitz, he found himself becoming more like his father in the aftermath of his relatively short marriage to "The Cosby Show" actor Lisa Bonet.
"I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years," Kravitz said, adding that he took responsibility and didn't let "my own desires take over.”
At least one person found Kravitz’s confession to be relatable, joking on X that the interview made them feel better about their own romantic life — or lack thereof.
“I just read that Lenny Kravitz, a god among men, has been celibate, on purpose, for 9 years, and I feel a lot less s---ty about my dating prospects right now!” they wrote.
