New York Magazine’s The Cut and the Vox Media Podcast Network today released the trailer for The Cut, a new weekly podcast exploring culture, style, sex, politics, and more. Host Avery Trufelman (@trufelman) will lead an ensemble of voices engaged in the conversations that matter most to women and those who love them; B.A. Parker (@aparkusfarce) is The Cut’s lead producer, and Nishat Kurwa and Stella Bugbee are its executive producers. New episodes of The Cut will be released every Wednesday, beginning August 19.
The Cut will explore topics ranging from how to find optimism in 2020 to male sensuality to the intensity and beauty of protests. The show will feature a rotating cast of The Cut’s writers and editors, joined by an extended community of voices on the leading edge of culture.
The new podcast marks a return to audio for The Cut, following the critically acclaimed run of The Cut on Tuesdays, produced with Gimlet through December 2019. The Cut on Tuesdays was named one of the best podcasts of 2018 by the New York Times, the Guardian, the Globe and Mail, and others.

Host Avery Trufelman is an alumna of the award-winning design podcast 99% Invisible. In September of 2018, she launched a limited-run series about clothing and fashion called Articles of Interest, which was named one of the best podcasts of 2018 by The New Yorker, and the finale was called the “best podcast episode of the year” by Vulture. She is also the host of Nice Try!, a podcast from Curbed and the Vox Media Podcast Network about utopian experiments, which ran its eight-episode first season in 2019.
“I want this show to feel like a box of chocolates: a real treat and a real surprise every week. I have been a massive fan of The Cut for years, so it’s been a thrill to embed with the team and develop something inventive and experimental. I can’t wait for it to be out in the world,” says host Avery Trufelman.
Lead producer B.A. Parker started as a film professor at Morgan State University, before receiving a production fellowship with This American Life. Her stories there include “The Miseducation of Castlemont High” and “Their Eyes Weren’t Watching God.” She’s produced for NPR’s Invisibilia featuring her essay “Love and Lapses,” as well as produced Gimlet’s Heavyweight. Recently, she completed a tenure as producer for WNYC’s Nancy, which includes her story “All the Fine Girls Be There.”
