OLD-FASHIONED
Douglas Ankrah
of LAB bar (London)
One Drink
1 brown sugar cube
1 dash orange bitters
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 teaspoon club soda
1 1/2 oz. (1 jigger) Woodford Reserve bourbon hard ice cubes
Orange zest (for garnish)
A good old fashioned takes several minutes to make, and involves muddling the sugar, bitters, and club soda together while adding bourbon and ice cubes: the sugar needs to be more or less dissolved before you can start adding ice. Do so patiently, and the drink will be clear and well balanced, with the orange zest adding the vital fragrance.
