Tonight marks the third and final presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. About a third of the way through the 90-minute joyride, host Chris Wallace asked the candidates a question about immigration. Which Trump took as an opportunity to bring up his concerns about the “bad hombres” currently running amok in the United States.
From Trump:
We’re going to secure the border, and once the border is secured at a later date, we’ll make a determination as to the rest. But we have some bad hombres here and we’re going to get them out.
Leaving the questionable verbiage aside, the comment inspired everyone who has ever read a blog post about hair trends to log on to Twitter, screencap a picture of the back of a woman’s head (for many people, the same woman’s head), and tweet a “bad ombré” joke. (In case you aren’t up on your hairstyles, ombré hair is dyed darker at the roots and gradually lightens as it trickles down.)
And it wasn’t just Twitter. Merriam Webster noted a spike in searches on its website for both “hombre” and “ombré.” Which is, I guess, still better than the last debate, when searches for “lepo” spiked on the site. (As in “What’s a lepo?” Translation: Aleppo, Syria.)
