Crowds Clash in Seoul As South Korean Court Removes President

Demonstrators for and against President Park Geun-hye took to the capital as the Constitutional Court announced the president's removal.

In a historic ruling Friday, South Korea's Constitutional Court formally removed impeached President Park Geun-hye from office over a corruption scandal that has plunged the country into political turmoil, worsened an already-serious national divide and led to calls for sweeping reforms.

Now that President Park Geun-hye will be permanently removed from office, the nation will need to hold a presidential election within 60 days. Park was first impeached by parliament in December for allegedly letting her confidante Choi Soon-sil get involved in state affairs and colluding to take bribes of millions of dollars from South Korean conglomerates.

The man reportedly died after he was hit by police loudspeakers that were shattered by protesters. According to police reports, two people died during the protests.
