'Trump Out, Refugees In': Ban Sparks Protests Across the Nation

Protests erupted across the U.S. after the president issued an executive order restricting travel for refugees and immigrants.

On Friday, Jan. 27, President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending all immigration from countries with terrorism concerns for 90 days, including Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen, which are all Muslim-majority nations. Protests erupted nationwide since.

Within 24 hours of Trump signing the executive order, its impact was resonating worldwide as officials struggled to interpret Trump's decision — leaving refugees and immigrants who had already been vetted and approved to enter the country detained at airports and stuck in legal limbo.

On Sunday, President Trump released a statement defending his executive order. "America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border."
