A fan threw a water bottle on the court late in the second half of Thursday’s first-round NCAA Tournament game between the Creighton Bluejays and the Louisville Cardinals, causing a brief delay.

With a little under five minutes left in the game and with the Cardinals trailing by 12 points, Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey picked up a technical foul for arguing with an official, seemingly upset with a no-call on the Cardinals’ most recent offensive possession.

Shortly after the technical was called, a fan threw the bottle onto the court, necessitating a cleanup.

The stoppage didn’t slow down the Bluejays, who held on to their lead and won 89-75. No. 9 seed Creighton entered the game a slight underdog against No. 8 seed Louisville.

The Bluejays controlled the game, however, leading for the final 37 minutes. Creighton advanced to the second round and will await the winner of Auburn vs. Alabama State.

The Cardinals were making their first tournament appearance since 2019. Louisville has not advanced to the second round since 2017.
