Apple will show off its new Watch at a much-hyped event in San Francisco at 10 a.m. local time Monday, and Tim Cook and Co. are expected to reveal many new details on the smart wristwear –- including release date, pricing structure, battery life and a slate of apps designed for the watch.
The Cupertino-based iThing maker first previewed the Apple Watch, its first entry into the wearable-devices market, back in September, revealing the watch face's design and features including a wireless charger and a heart-rate sensor. Apple fans can expect Cook -- as well as other Apple executives and developers who have created apps for the watch -- to use the stage time to convince potential customers why they should shell out at least $349 for the gadget.
The Apple Watch must be paired with an iPhone for most of its non-timekeeping features, including the ability to run several apps and the display of notifications about texts or phone calls received. The watch also comes equipped with Apple Pay, the company's mobile-payments system.
The Apple Watch will be available in three different models, each of which offer two size options, the company said in September: the Apple Watch Sport (the model expected to price at $349), the stainless steel Apple Watch and the ultra-luxe 18-carat-gold Apple Watch Edition.
