What more could a kid want on Halloween than sweets? We asked mom blogger Candice Miller of Mama and Tata to share the Halloween costume that scored her daughter the most.

In search of a Halloween costume for my then-two-year-old daughter a few years ago, we shuffled through several ideas. Most of them involved her wanting to be various Disney princesses and fairies — something traditionally feminine I wanted to avoid if I could.

I did know my daughter was obsessed with dinosaurs, so I decided to float an idea (“Maybe Pebbles Flintstone?”) and was pleasantly surprised when she seemed open to my (non-pink) recommendation. I went on Etsy and found the perfect Pebbles costume, handmade of green fleece and complete with a bone hair accessory (or rather, a bone made out of white felt attached to an alligator clip).

When Halloween rolled around, I put her hair in a high ponytail and clipped it with the bone. I put her in a white long-sleeved shirt and black leggings before pulling on the green fleece top and bloomers (the costume was actually perfect for layering on a chilly fall night).

As we went from door to door down spooky Elm Street (yes, that’s really its name), she came up with an appropriate twist on the Flintstones catchphrase: “Yabba dabba boo!” Adults would open the door stone-faced, grin in recognition and break into the Flintstones theme song. I lost track of how many of them asked, “Where’s Bamm-Bamm?” (Her sister’s costume, for the record.) I can’t say this with scientific certainty, but I’m pretty sure the costume was the reason for her mighty haul at the end of the night. That’s the secret genius of the Pebbles costume—why be a boring princess when you can tap into boomer nostalgia?
