Recently, in honor of Fugly Week, I wrote about my beloved Marpac Dohm noise machine: The gist of it is, while the clunky gadget looks like a Stormtrooper helmet, it’s led to the soundest sleep of my life. How excited I was, then, to learn, via an email from the kind folks at Marpac HQ, that just last week (what timing!), the company actually collaborated with an outside designer for the first time — Michael Graves — on five different, slightly more modern looks. “This is the first time we’ve brought in an outside design firm with an eye toward aesthetic upgrades, while still keeping functionality, simplicity, and quality sound as our highest priorities,” Marpac marketing director Liz Heinberg told me. While we are still partial to the fugly simplicity of the original, the new one is indeed quite a bit sleeker and 2017-appropriate, and even comes in a millennial-pink tint. Right now, these Dohm Elites are available exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond in classic gray, and will be available in four other shades at BB&B on July 10.
