There is no shortage of face-razor options, but electric razors tend to be the easiest to use. Since they are powered by motors and are high-tech cutting mechanisms, these razors tend to require less prep and minimal maintenance afterward, especially compared to safety or cartridge razors. The latter might give you an overall closer shave but with a greater risk of cutting your face. And actually, as electric razors have improved with time, some have become capable of getting you the super-close shave you might expect from a cartridge option. Take the Braun Series 9 razor, for example. As we write in our guide to electric razors:
“The Braun Series 9 is the cream of the crop,” says master barber Angelo Ruscetta of American Haircuts in Kennesaw, Georgia. He told us it shaves “almost as close as a straight razor,” and after he uses it, “I can’t feel any stubble.” Barber David Kim also likes the Series 9, describing it as “really big in the industry” … [ Vince Garcia, the owner of L.A. barbershop Grey Matter] also uses this electric razor in his shop and told us he recommends it to clients for home use. In addition to getting nice and close, he says that “the higher quality of Braun blades makes them less prone to irritating sensitive skin because they’re able to achieve as much power with thinner metal on the foil; the thicker the foil, the harder it is for the blade to cut hair, and the more it pulls.”
There is a catch, of course. Electric razors as universally acclaimed as the Braun Series 9 — which includes an automatic self-cleaning base — do not come cheap. At full price, the shaver could cover the price of years’ worth of manual-razor cartridges. But right now, thanks to Prime Day, the Series 9 razor is selling for the lowest price we’ve seen since late 2019: $215. That 20 percent discount makes this an extremely tantalizing option for anyone whose post-vaxx summer plans include getting rid of the ZZ Top mane that’s been hanging out beneath their chin.
