Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed products and single out the most convincing ones. (You can learn more about our rating system and how we pick each item here.)

And while we’ve written lots about Halloween — including the best dog Halloween costumes, the best baby Halloween costumes, and the best cheap Halloween decorations — here, we’ve rounded up the best cat Halloween costumes, as praised by the most enthusiastic reviewers on Amazon.

Best-rated cat Halloween costume

$9

“Purrrfect cat costume,” one reviewer writes, though the consensus among reviewers is that this costume is loved by owners, not so much cats. “My kitty Patty loves her sailing costume … Actually she HATES it, but she still looks cute as heck in it,” one writes. They also comment on the fit, saying, “Definitely would fit a larger cat better — Patty is small and the hat ear holes are a bit too wide for her.” Another reviewer writes, “My cat is about 11-12 pounds, and the standard fit just fine.” One owner does say, “Mine likes it, believe it or not, but only when it’s around his neck,” and adds, “whenever I put it on he struts around like he’s king or something.” And they’re not the only owner who sees their cat take on a whole new attitude with this costume: “This product changed my life, every time I see my cat he says ‘ships ahoy.’ He starting to act like a sailor, I’m starting to believe my cat is actually a sailor. The sailor outfit is so realistic that he’s got offered jobs to run large shipping lines.”

Best-rated (less expensive) cat Halloween costume

A review written from the perspective of a cat says, “I’m not happy … But my mom thinks I’m cute.” They continue, “I am part Maine Coon, 17.5 pounds. Fits perfectly. Brings out the Lion in me. I would recommend it for other kitties.” Other pet parents agree that this costume’s cuteness more than outweighs their cats dislike. Like this reviewer, many say, “For the price, it’s great entertainment watching your cat run around like a lion,” but many also think it’s a great price for the quality. “The mane is a good quality: well-placed Velcro, thick fur, and nice coloring,” one writes, while another adds, “It’s quality fake hair, actually soft and don’t feel like straw.” Others describe it fitting well, too. One notes, “Our cat is average size (maybe 12 pounds?) and the size ‘small’ it just fine.”

And now, some micro-picks for every type of cat Halloween costume you might be looking for.

Best bunny cat Halloween costume

“I loved it. The cat put up with it,” one reviewer writes of this bunny costume. And while many others comment on how cute this is and how it’s great for pictures, there are some who think this bunny outfit has some more practical uses. One reviewer describes this bunny cat costume as restrictive, which helps keep their cat under control. “Cat scratch got you down? Put ’er in the bunny suit,” they write. “She’s eating my prized plant leaves again? Put ’er in the bunny suit.” Another says, “It makes it much easier to move her in and out of the carrier as well as clip her nails.” About 15 percent of reviewers also describe this costume as “soft” making it something warm and comfortable for their kitties. One says “it covers her nicely as a blanket.” This user brings up a common note about the sizing: “If you’re considering buying this item, I would recommend it, but to get one size bigger.”

Best pirate cat Halloween costume

“I had my cat, wearing this, entered into a pet costume contest,” one reviewer writes, adding, “He WON.” And he’s not the only cat to win a prize in this pirate costume. Three other cat owners report the same thing. The consensus among reviewers is this is a fun costume, especially for one reviewer who got it for their one-eyed cat. Others say they got it as a joke. “I put it on the cat one Saturday morning, let him get used to it and then opened the bedroom door to let him jump on the bed with my boyfriend, who was asleep, as a surprise,” one writes. And while the owners are getting a laugh out of this costume, it doesn’t seem like the cats are loving it, as many note that they only keep it on for a few minutes. But owners don’t seem to care: “Tough luck, he’s gonna wear it on Halloween lol.”

Best Wonder Woman cat Halloween costume

Yes, this is a photo of a golden retriever, but this costume does fit casts, as well. As one reviewer reports, “We got it for our cat Zoey and she is rather long and skinny, so we folded it over and pinned it with a safety pin.” Even though this reviewer mentions the fit was slightly off, one fifth of reviewers do positively comment on the quality of this costume. “Surprised by how good the quality was for such an inexpensive costume,” one writes, while another says, “Dress is gorgeous and very well made.” One even goes as far to say it’s “better quality than most human outfits.” Most important, the pets love it. One says theirs “knows she’s hot stuff in this for Halloween.”

Best shark cat Hallowen costume

While this costume can be used for both cats and dogs, about 15 percent of reviewers say they bought this for their feline fur babies. “If you, like me, have an agreeable kitten who loves to dress up and pretend he’s a shark, then you will absolutely love this outfit,” one writes. “The soft fins, the scary sharp teeth and the fun details make this pet costume a huge hit.” They also add that it has “Nicely sized leg openings that are well placed for easy leg insertion” and a “perfectly sized hood.” Another praises it for acting like a jacket, saying, “The inside is Sherpa-like lined and it keeps her warm in this freezing weather.” As for the fit, reviewers are convinced this costume runs small. One says, “I have a 15-pound cat and had to order an XL,” while another with a 13-pound cat with medium-length hair writes, “The XL size is purrfect for him.”
