This Part-Brush, Part-Showerhead Takes Care of My Chronic Tangles

I spent years (and so many hours) washing my naturally thick, frizz-prone hair. When I finally discovered the no-wash-needed power of dry shampoo, I, like many others, immediately began overusing it.

I spritzed. I sprayed. I stopped washing it as much as I maybe should. Then one fateful evening, I gathered my hair into a ponytail and went for a run, only to remove my elastic and find my strands shellacked into a ponytail without a hair tie in place. I’d really overdone it this time. It took a scoop of coconut oil, palmful of clarifying shampoo, and at least 40 bicep-burning minutes with a wet brush to finally work through the tangles. I tossed the dry shampoo and begrudgingly returned to washing my hair daily.

Desperate to get my time back, I searched Amazon for something that might simplify my routine. I found a product I didn’t know I needed (and, in fact, didn’t know existed): Conair’s HydroDetangler and Showerhead. I ordered one immediately.

This handy contraption is a spa-worthy showerhead that comes with a brush attachment for massaging, detangling, and rinsing product down the drain in one simple step. It has five different pressure settings, one of which feel like those fancy rainfall showerheads, and the brush’s bristles are perfect — not too soft, not too firm. There’s also a two-way diverter switch to prevent water from flowing through the brush, if you’d rather work your conditioner in before rinsing it out. I’ve found this to be ideal for washing out a few days’ worth of dry shampoo — which I now use again, worry free, because of this gadget. I can just give my scalp a good little zhuzh, then easily pull through the length of my hair to detangle my strands, no matter how much Batiste is in there.

Here’s the thing: This tool doesn’t save me time, exactly. (It’s no two-in-one styler.) But it does allow me to embrace dry shampoo without fretting about ruining my hair, and the dry shampoo enables me to skip washing every single day. Plus, when I do wash, it’s so much more enjoyable — and, as you know if you have long hair, that’s no small thing.
