If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked Evelynn Escobar-Thomas — the founder of intersectional hiking club Hike Clerb — about the body oil, candle, and tortillas she can’t live without.
I would consider myself a body-oil connoisseur. My skin needs oil. When I come out of the shower, putting on my body oil and making sure I am very moisturized is such a major key. Peet Rivko’s oil is great — it’s a little thick but doesn’t leave me feeling greasy after I rub it in. It has a very natural scent. There are definitely others with intentional scents that smell better, but I prefer this because it’s really moisturizing.
I’m a granny-panty stan because of my pregnancy. I love anything that is soft, not going to leave a line, and goes over the bump comfortably. These 100 percent-cotton briefs do exactly that. I’ve bought so many pairs because it’s the only underwear I want to wear.
PF Candle Co. makes super-affordable, good-quality candles. Piñon is really good — it’s my top choice. But I also like Amber & Moss and Cedar & Sagebrush. They’re all very natural, earthy scents.
I love a spray sanitizer. I hate gel. Dr. Bronner’s has the most beautiful lavender smell. And it really makes my hands feel like they’re very sanitized.
I try to eat a majority plant-based, grain-free diet. That’s what Siete is all about. These lime chips are phenomenal. You really get that citrus zing and they’re very natural. They don’t taste artificial like those Tostitos with lime.
Chickpea tortillas are my personal favorite because they have a nice, almost chewy consistency like that of a traditional flour tortilla. Whatever I’m making — a wrap or tacos or whatever the hell else I use tortillas for — I’m definitely using these chickpea ones.
They’re comfy as hell. The brand is also very thoughtful and intentional in the ways that it talks about nature and brings its graphics to life. They are a little bit pricey, but I think worth the investment. You get your money’s worth. I own all the sweat sets that Total Luxury Spa is selling right now.
Skin by Jem is a Latina-owned skin-care brand. The Papaya Glow oil is an ultrahydrating facial oil that I’ve been using a lot this winter. I live in L.A. so I’m not dealing with extreme dryness, but this helps to hydrate the skin on my face without making it oily. You can use it all over your body, too. It’s supposed to be anti-inflammatory and reduce redness and hyperpigmentation.
Le Manoir makes really great nine-free, vegan, and cruelty-free gel polishes. Ever since I started using this kit, I haven’t wanted to use any other nail polishes. These are very easy to use and the brand has a great range of cool jelly colors and glitter polishes.
This is the one meal-replacement bar that I actually enjoy. When we have Hike Clerb events, it’s always the bar that we pass out. And anytime I’m hiking or doing a day trip, I always take one of these. Maple Sea Salt is one of my favorite flavors; it weirdly tastes like a pretzel. Everyone that I’ve introduced the bars to has become obsessed.
