One of my favorite little doodads to find on sale is the LifeStraw, a Sharpie-size water filter that removes bacteria, parasites, and even microplastics from any water source. Fitness writer Jeremy Rellosa used it on a backpacking trip in Patagonia after he drank all the water he brought: “I just stuck the straw into the stream and started sipping through the filter.”
But you don’t have to be a camping buff to use this. I myself am considering grabbing this set of LifeStraws so I can put one in my emergency-preparedness kit and then give the rest to family members as stocking stuffers. And at $45.50 for a pack of five, each straw is just over $9 — the cheapest I’ve ever seen the product get.
