Despite the internet shouting about the need for self-care, regular pedicures weren’t helping me attain any kind of deep happiness. It turns out self-care is more about getting yourself to a place where you don’t need to schedule a 45-minute escape from reality while someone else scrubs your feet. But despite my claims to have reached some sort of higher plane of self-care, I’m still vain enough to want my feet to look nice.
While browsing through these pages late one night, feeling the heels of my feet scratchy and ragged after a long summer of walking around in questionable shoes, I stumbled upon a recommendation for O’Keeffe’s Healthy Feet Cream.
I ordered it and was disappointed after the first use — how could this lightweight cream possibly win a battle against my city-weary 15,000-steps-a-day feet? I was expecting something with the gloopy thickness of Vaseline, a product I had been using to try to keep my feet baby soft. Still, I persevered, because I was sick of throwing away money and time on monthly pedicures. And I’m so glad I did.
Readers, I have not had a pedicure since I started using this six months ago and my feet are softer than ever. I noticed the difference within the first week of regular use. This cream is nothing short of magical. I use it after a shower, ideally before bed (I shower twice a day), and then put on a pair of socks and, late at night, teetering on the brink of deep sleep, when I kick my socks off and rub my feet against one another, it is blissful. The cream has glycerin and something called allantoin that allows it to better permeate the thicker skin we have on our feet. And you really don’t need to use very much of it so a small container lasts a while. I do not miss my pedicures. Disclaimer, I don’t paint my toenails and fingernails often and when I do, it’s usually just a light nude shade that I can easily do myself so my pedicures were almost entirely for the sake of keeping my feet soft and well moisturized.
With warmer weather approaching, thanks to this cream, I am sandal ready for the first day the temperatures cross 70.
