If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked actress and director Regina King — who recently partnered with Vaseline on their Equitable Skincare for All Initiative and just released her film One Night in Miami on Amazon Prime Video — about the bonnet, foam roller, and tea she can’t live without.
I vary between a satin pillowcase and a silk bonnet. I’m obsessed with this one from Slip. It doesn’t leave a mark on your head, and it’s big enough and deep enough for my hair to fit in it when I’m wearing my hair in braids.
I swear by these multivitamins. They could be a placebo, who knows, but I definitely feel like they give me good energy. The ingredients list is all plant-based things. Everything’s natural; everything’s organic.
I don’t know if I’m hitting a certain age, but a foam roller is necessary in my life because it can just knead out any kinks in my body. I ordered this one because it was the first one I saw on Amazon. I travel with it — I’ll send it to wherever I’m going ahead of time, along with my yoga mat.
I like that this is thick. When you’re doing things where you have your knees on the ground, this offers much-needed cushioning. Its thickness means it’s not convenient to throw in a suitcase — that’s why I’ll send it ahead of time when I travel. When I stepped my game up to the thicker yoga mat I was like, “Where were you all of my life?”
I don’t drink coffee because I don’t like the taste of it. I like to have a cup of yerba maté tea first thing in the morning; I love the nutty taste, and I don’t feel any of the jitteriness you can from coffee. I’m not a person who drinks tea cold, and I like the process of letting the tea steep. I buy it loose-leaf because I have a lot of tea strainers.
I was in Mexico once and the bar I was at didn’t have any more Clase Azul, so the waiter insisted that I try the Reserva de la Familia. He gave it to me in a Champagne glass and said the first one was on him because he was sure I would order another. He was right. Most people look at tequila as a shot or something for a margarita, but this would be a sipping tequila. There are those people who sip on cognac; for tequila drinkers, this is our cognac.
My teeth are pretty tight, so a lot of those floss picks people use just don’t fit between them. And when I can get one between my teeth it usually strikes my gum so offensively. Glide does exactly what it says — glides between my teeth. I keep it in my purse.
It’s a must. I have tins in several purses and in my makeup bag. I know it wasn’t made for more than your lips, but I use it for everything. If I have a little hair that’s getting unruly and threatening to make an appearance, I put a little of this on my fingertips and help calm her down. And I love the way it smells.
