Regular Strategist readers know that two of our (many) shopping obsessions are things that keep our teeth clean and ingenious gadgets that make our lives easier. This water pick — now on sale for $40 — is a star in both categories. Water flossers allow you to use a powerful targeted stream of water to clean between your teeth, as a supplement for or replacement to traditional floss. As staff writer Liza Corsillo writes:
Most [dentists] acknowledge that the best tool with which to do that cleaning is really the one you know you’ll use correctly and most often … “Because so many people have a difficult time flossing properly, using a water flosser with the ADA Seal of Acceptance has been proven to be as effective, if not more effective, than traditional flossing at removing plaque between teeth,” explains Dr. Jill Lasky of Lasky Pediatric Dental in Studio City, California. “Many just put the floss between their teeth instead of making the recommended C-shape with the floss to ensure it properly contacts all surfaces of the teeth. Water flossers are less technique-sensitive.” And much harder to screw up.
Of the 28 dentists Corsillo spoke with in as she was researching water flossers, 22 recommended ones like this from Waterpik. Partially, that’s just because the brand has been around for so long — one dentist says Waterpik is to water flossers what Kleenex is to tissues. But the Waterpik lives up to the hype. This one, the Waterpik Aquarius, has an easy-to-use design, 90-second run time, ten pressure settings, and a big-enough water tank. It’s not a small device, but most of the experts we spoke with agreed that what you trade in counter space you get in power. Right now for Prime Day, the Aquarius is on sale for $40, which matches the lowest deal price we’ve ever seen since its release in late 2016. If your post-vaccine summer plans include showing off those pearly whites, here’s your chance to get going!
If you, like Henry (and Tom) Ford, prefer things in black, here’s the dark-horse water flosser your heart desires.
