If you know anything about Arnold Schwarzenegger, you can’t be that shocked that he had a secret kid with his family’s maid. He’s not exactly Mr. Rogers. More surprising to many people is how long it took for everyone to actually find out about it. According to the Times, “[f]riends of both Mr. Schwarzenegger and Ms. Shriver expressed astonishment … that he had eluded detection by the public and his family over the course of his very public life.” Indeed, fourteen years is a long time for someone under almost constant scrutiny to keep such a huge skeleton in the closet. But it’s not the longest time a political figure has kept a secret child hidden from the public, not by a long shot.
