Don Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle Break Up, Greece Hardest Hit

The one nice thing about Donald Trump Jr.’s relationship with Kimberly Guilfoyle was that they weren’t really hurting anyone but themselves. While MAGA politics have caused issues in many relationships, these two seemed united by their sometimes creepy devotion to President-elect Donald Trump. But sadly, it seems their engagement is now off. And for unclear reasons, the people of Greece are going to suffer the consequences of this MAGA tragedy.

President Trump named Guilfoyle the United States ambassador to Greece on Tuesday. The announcement came just hours after the Daily Mail published a story titled, “Donald Trump Jr. is seen flaunting his romance with socialite Bettina Anderson in Palm Beach … with no sign of fiancee Kimberly Guilfoyle.” The piece included photos of Don Jr. holding hands with Anderson, which the outlet described as “the most compelling evidence to date” that the engagement was over.

Don Jr. and Guilfoyle still have not confirmed their relationship status. On X, Guilfoyle said she is “honored” to accept the ambassadorship, and Don Jr. said he is “so proud” of her.

But as recapped (somewhat surprisingly) by the New York Times, rumors have been flying about a potential love triangle since Anderson was spotted sitting behind Don Jr. and Guilfoyle at the Republican National Convention this summer:

… speculation about Ms. Anderson’s closeness with the president-elect’s son intensified in September, with reports that the pair were seen kissing during a brunch not long before. (Adding a layer of intrigue were various reports that Ms. Anderson was a friend of his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children.)

Suspicions about the durability of Mr. Trump and Ms. Guilfoyle’s engagement were given more fodder when Ms. Guilfoyle did not appear in a post-election family portrait, which did feature Vanessa Trump and their children. …

The chatter has only grown in recent days, after Ms. Anderson — who just celebrated a birthday — posted a story on her Instagram account, showing a lavish bouquet of flowers and a gushy card from an admirer. … eagle-eyed observers noticed that Mr. Trump’s Instagram handle was noted in the posting.

So when and why did Trump and Guilfoyle split? On Thursday, People reported that Don Jr. may have started cheating on his fiancée six months ago in an effort to impress his dad:

A source told PEOPLE shortly after their outing that Don Jr., 46, has been seeing Anderson for “about 6 months” and “even took her on a trip to Alaska and introduced her around as his girlfriend when he was still very much with Kim.”

Now, a separate source close to the Trumps suggests that Don Jr. sees Anderson as someone who better fits in with the family — his own Melania Trump equivalent. Melania, 54, notably met Donald, 78, amid his second divorce while he was on a date with another woman.

“Don Jr. has always wanted to look good in his father’s eyes,” the source tells PEOPLE. “Someone like Bettina, who is and has been a model, and is in Waspy circles of Palm Beach is something that would impress him.”

As far as we know, the people of Greece played no role in this sordid tale. They will be subjected to Guilfoyle’s shouty defense of Trump’s policies, though they are only guilty of having nice beaches, good food, and a “picturesque” U.S. ambassador’s residence located nowhere near Don Jr.
