Melania Trump Doesn’t Know the Real ‘Y.M.C.A.’ Dance Either

Group dances don’t get any simpler than the movements that traditionally accompany the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” You don’t need anyone to tell you which way you’re sliding. There’s no hip twisting required. You don’t even need to be able to get low to the floor as you “Shout!” a little bit softer now. You just move your arms into the shape of a Y, then an M, then a C, and finally an A when those letters are called out.

Yet new Melania Trump footage proves the Trumps are bizarrely incapable of doing this.

Donald Trump has famously turned this bug into a feature. The 1978 disco hit was a staple at his rallies, and it even served as the outro music for his first term. He said he loves to play the “gay national anthem” during his amateur DJ sets at Mar-a-Lago because it “gets them moving.” But he never does the official “Y.M.C.A.” moves. Instead, he awkwardly pumps his fists in time with the music, making no attempt to form letters.

This “Trump Dance” has become iconic. In the past few months, even professional football players began swinging their arms Trump style after scoring. And in a December appearance on Fox News, Melania commented on her husband’s viral moves, describing it as a “very special and unique dance.” But when asked if this is how she dances, Melania quickly responded “no.”

It seems that’s only half-true. On January 1, Donald Trump Jr. posted video from the Mar-a-Lago New Year’s Eve party that shows his stepmother, his father, and Trump BFF Elon Musk rocking out to “Y.M.C.A.” Melania sways to the music and raises her arms to a low Y during the chorus but doesn’t follow through with any of the other letters.

Footage from another angle shows Melania’s take on “Y.M.C.A.” is basically a graceful amalgam of her husband’s “Trump Dance” and the moves encouraged by the Village People.

Melania isn’t the only Trump who’s been showing off her “Y.M.C.A.” In November, Kai Trump emulated her grandfather on TikTok:

That same month, video surfaced of Barron Trump’s “Y.M.C.A.,” which involves clenching his hands together and staring at his father and “Uncle” Elon in silent judgment:

The once and future First Family is basically a real-life version of the Bluths, so it makes sense that they each have their own unique “chicken dance.”
