Founded in 1974 and in its current location since 2000, this gallery-cum-studio is a haven for book lovers and art lovers alike. The Center includes a traditional bookmaking studio with all manner of large machinery like book presses, cutters, and stampers, along with cases of type stacked everywhere. For those who already know how to use said equipment, you can rent studio space, and for those interested in learning, the Center offers a slew of classes: introductory classes on bookbinding, letterpress, and typesetting, as well as more specific courses such as �Binding a Classic Hardcover Book,� �Pop-Up Paper Engineering,� and the surprisingly popular �Copperplate Calligraphy.� (Upper-level offerings include courses in leatherwork, woodcuts, and printmaking.) Classes range from $150 to $525, though they also offer more budget-friendly one-day seminars. Beyond classes, the CBA has a gallery space, rotated seasonally, that holds contemporary book-art shows and small exhibits.
