New York was recognized last night with two National Magazine Awards from the American Society of Magazine Editors, taking home the “Ellies” for Single-Topic Issue and Lifestyle Journalism. Editor-in-chief David Haskell accepted the Lifestyle Journalism award recognizing the “Year of the Nepo Baby” cover package, which created a massive conversation about Hollywood-family influence. He was joined onstage by the Cut editor-in-chief Lindsay Peoples and writer Morgan Jerkins to accept the Single-Topic Issue award for “Ten Years Since Trayvon,” a package on the movement born in the wake of Trayvon Martin’s murder that deftly wove essays, reflections, and reported accounts into a sprawling chronology and history.
New York was one of two magazines that received multiple awards. It was a finalist in eight other categories including General Excellence, News, Sports and Entertainment; Design; Photography; Feature Writing, for “What the Right Found on Hunter Biden’s Laptop,” by Andrew Rice and Olivia Nuzzi; and profile writing for “The Woman Who Killed Roe,” by Kerry Howley.
Additionally, New York features writer Brock Colyar received an ASME Next award, honoring outstanding work by magazine journalists under 30, and New York won an ASME Award for Design, Photography, and Illustration and was nominated for six more.
