Today, New York Magazine launched a flagship mobile app that will provide a new premium reading experience for the outlet’s enthusiastic digital audience. The app will allow readers to more easily move across all six of New York’s verticals: Intelligencer, the Cut, Vulture, the Strategist, Curbed, and Grub Street.
New York’s digital verticals were defined in order to connect with audiences across multiple passion points, all while inhabiting the magazine’s unique sensibility. The app will allow readers to set a default homepage to their favorite vertical while also introducing them to content across New York’s broader ecosystem to help strengthen its relationship with its large and loyal audience.
“Our goal was to build an app that was simple, useful, and more interesting than Instagram,” said editor-in-chief David Haskell. “We publish 80 articles daily across our six sites, and I hope this app helps readers find something that grabs them at all sorts of moments, from a short hit during a quick commute to a long soak at the end of the night.”
“New York is always looking for new ways to better serve its loyal subscribers,” said Priyanka Arya, senior vice-president of consumer revenue at Vox Media. “The vast majority of this audience interacts with the magazine on mobile, and it was clear that there is a tremendous appetite for a better digital experience that allows readers to move more seamlessly across their favorite verticals, and to have our best content right at their fingertips.”
Additional features:
Switch Between Sites With Ease: Readers can conveniently toggle between the quick takes, deep dives, and long reads across Vulture, the Cut, Intelligencer, Curbed, Grub Street, and the Strategist, seamlessly switching between their favorite sites or setting the homepage to their go-to.
Get Introduced to Editors’ Picks: New York’s editors will regularly highlight the stories across the magazine that they think are worth spending more time with in a new “Great Stories” section.
Be the First to Know What Everyone’s Talking About: With personalized notifications and a new “Collections” section, both exclusive to the app, readers will get first access to stories on the most talked-about topics across New York — including personal essays, pop culture, political analysis, city news, food reviews, and more.
The app is available for iOS users with availability for Android users to come.
