As Strategist editors and writers, for better or for worse, we cannot turn off our shopping brains. With ‘Saw Something, Said Something,’ we’ll be writing about the tiniest of details that have caught our eye — status toothpaste in the background of Lizzo’s TikTok, a plant so rare it’s called a Birkin, or a specific face cream in a Roy sibling’s medicine cabinet.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper appeals to my fickle and exuberant tastes, but up until now, I have only fantasized about covering my kitchen or filling my closet with loud but temporary prints. Instead of exciting me, scrolling through all the possibilities leaves me with choice overload and I beat myself up for not being able to commit to something that is at its core interchangeable.

But then, this week, I got an email announcing the launch of Marimekko peel-and-stick wallpaper, and I suddenly understood what has been holding me back. None of the other wallpapers hit me in the gut the way these do, because none of them embody nearly a century of fashion and design history. The collection includes four classic prints from the 70-year-old Finnish design giant in varying color palettes. They are contemporary and timeless, iconic and fresh, as if they could exist in multiple decades simultaneously, or like I might have seen them in my grandmother’s bathroom before I even knew what Finland was.

My favorite and arguably Marimekko’s most famous print, Unikko, comes in five different color combinations, including poppy red with magenta and creamy white with olive green. The latter feels eerily appropriate for 2022’s acidic-color and maximalist interior-design leanings. The crowded flower pattern is something I have seen countless times (and have owned in various formats), but it still feels new. Plus, it always puts me in a good mood.

If that’s too crazy for your home, there is Puketti, a peaceful field of fluffy hydrangeas; Kompotti, a speckled grid of fruit; or Rulla, a kids’ pattern featuring primary-colored animals on skates that will remind many millennial parents of their own childhood bedrooms. Each roll measures 20.8 inches wide by 18 feet long, and for launch day, every print is 20 percent off. Everything about this news has me nodding my head in excitement, not least of which is the idea that I could probably put a few rolls up without any help in just a few hours.

The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
