As we recently wrote, jumpsuits have become a wardrobe staple on par with the little black dress or white T-shirt. It’s not hard to see why. “I love the ease of a jumpsuit because your outfit requires very little thought,” stylist Ansley Morgan says of their appeal. “Just add some accessories and you’re good to go.” The jumpsuit’s rise to something lots of folks wear everyday means that brands have also amped up their offerings, resulting in a slew of size-inclusive options. To help you find your new go-to one piece, we spoke to Morgan and 12 other stylish people about the best plus-size jumpsuits. Read on for their 20 favorites, which include loungewear-like options, workwear coveralls, and billowy linen styles — all in a range of sizes from XXL to 5XL.
Best under-$100 plus-size jumpsuits
“Who would have thought that the original jumpsuit — a functional one-piece garment used by parachuters — would become the staple piece it is today,” says style expert and model Sharonda Grandberry. She notes that jumpsuits are particularly good transitional pieces, telling us that, “since we are approaching fall, I’d encourage all plus-size women to add one to their closet.” In terms of which jumpsuit to add, Grandberry recommends this form-fitting (but still cozy) style from Amazon, which she suggests pairing with a blazer if you need to hop on a Zoom call, or with a sweater if there’s a chill in the air. The jumpsuit is available in sizes ranging from 1XL to 3XL.
“Everyone needs a denim jumpsuit in their closet and this Gap one is the perfect option,” says Morgan, who notes that the wash gives the garment a “fun ’80s vibe.” The piece goes up to a size 20 “and is made from a soft denim knit, so the fabric won’t be too heavy, which is always the key when wearing denim from head to toe.” As for what to wear it with, Morgan suggests a pair of Converse and some gold statement jewelry.
Plus-size style expert Nikki Apostolou calls this affordable off-the-shoulder jumpsuit from Fashion to Figure “the casual cousin of the little black dress,” adding that it can be dressed up or dressed down. The jumpsuit goes up to a size 4XL.
Dickies recently released a plus-size line of its classic silhouettes, including this workwear-inspired jumpsuit (which this writer can personally vouch for, after being sent a sample by the brand). The jumpsuit is made with comfort in mind: It has a breathable, sweat-wicking fabric, plus elastic along the back of the waistband that nips you in while still providing a comfortable fit. It’s available in sizes from 1XL to 3XL and comes in six colors, including black, navy, green, white, pink, and this fire-engine red.
If you’re looking for a jumpsuit that’s got a little more of a loungewear lean, we suggest this flight-attendant favorite, which is available in up to a size 3XL. “Every single body looks amazing in it — and it never wrinkles,” says Amelia Parker, who is one of the hundreds of flight attendants that owns it. Parker adds that she has friends from their 30s to their 80s who all swear by the jumpsuit’s style and comfort.
This “perfectly pink, super versatile” (and on-sale) Shein jumpsuit is beloved by travel blogger and digital strategist Samantha O’Brochta, who says “it works for any season.” While it’s sold out in a few sizes, the retailer still has plenty of 4XL jumpsuits available.
From Aerie’s new loungewear line, this form-fitting jumpsuit (that you could do yoga in) is available in up to a size XXL. Strategist writer Tembe Denton-Hurst describes it as possibly “the softest piece of loungewear I own.” Aside from the feel, she is “most impressed with the length. At five-foot-six-and-a-half-inches tall, things either bunch at the knee or do a weird thing around the ankle — thankfully, this did neither,” she explains. Denton-Hurst also likes “the strappy open back, which feels like an unexpected touch.”
O’Brochta also loves this casual jumpsuit that goes up to a size 4XL. She promises that its “timeless” black-and-white stripes “will make anyone look good.” (Vertical stripes are slimming on any body, after all.) Plus, she adds, “it’s stretchy, so you never have to worry about sitting down and something ripping (which has definitely happened to me with too-tight jumpsuits).”
Best under-$200 plus-size jumpsuits
Morgan loves this “military-inspired” cotton-twill jumpsuit from Strategist-approved brand Universal Standard for its “minimal details and loose fit.” The fabric is “stretchy and comfortable,” she assures, “making this a great piece for everyday wear.” It’s available in four colors and, like all of Universal Standard’s pieces, goes up to a size 40.
According to Sarah Chiwaya, a plus-size-brand consultant and the founder of Curvily, “Eloquii is a reliable source for statement-making, plus-size jumpsuits, especially if you are looking for bold colors and prints.” Apostolou agrees, telling us she particularly loves this fuchsia Eloquii boilersuit — which goes up to a size 26 — because “the thicker denim fabric is more forgiving, and the tie waist shows off your curves, flattering multiple body shapes.” Once you have it on, she promises this will really “make a statement.”
For a dressier option, content creator Ashby Vose suggests this “bold” Eloquii jumpsuit she bought earlier this year to wear to a May wedding. “Of course, those plans never came to fruition, but I’m still so glad I have this jumpsuit that is totally comfortable and eye-catching in power red,” she says. “I’m going to rock it in the fall with a jacket and again next summer.” While she got it months ago, the jumpsuit is still available in sizes from 14 to 28 — and now it’s on sale.
Both Vose and Morgan name-checked Big Bud Press, a brand known for its much-beloved line of both long- and short-sleeved jumpsuits that are manufactured in Los Angeles and sold in sizes up to 5XL. “Big Bud Press has perfected the jumpsuit,” declares Morgan, who owns the short-sleeved style in both baby blue and black and says she’s planning to add a bright-red option to her closet. “I have had my eye on Big Bud Press’s jumpsuits for so long,” adds Vose. “The best thing about this jumpsuit is the incredible array of colors and prints and sizes it comes in: You can always find something playful and fun whether you wear a size XS or 4X,” she adds.
“It’s hard to pick a favorite jumpsuit from Fashion Brand Company because they are all showstopping,” says photographer and style expert Marielle Elizabeth. One of her favorites is this two-tone jumpsuit, which she calls “polished, sleek, and powerful,” adding it “would look effortlessly chic worn with bold earrings, heels, and a jean jacket.” The jumpsuit is available in up to a 5XL, has two hidden side pockets, and is made from a slightly stretchy, smoothing fabric. Founded by Penelope Gazin, Fashion Brand Company is known for its size-inclusive, slightly absurd — but always joyful — designs (think a sweater embroidered with abstract nipples, or “lizard clothes,” miniature versions of its designs meant for, well, pet lizards).
“Super cheery and easy to transition into fall with a fluffy sweater tucked underneath” is how model and writer Lydia Okello describes this handmade-to-order jumpsuit from House of Flint. They add that it has “an elastic waist and straps that allow for different sizing needs.” The jumpsuit comes in sizes up to XXL, four different colors, and in both straight- and wide-leg versions.
Best splurge-worthy plus-size jumpsuits
According to Okello, “Sotela’s Lima jumpsuit is a one-and-done outfit.” They say “the ease of the wrap detail is a favorite,” noting that the piece can go “from casual to elevated with a simple change of accessories.” Sotela sizes its garments from zero to ten, the largest of which is designed to fit a bust of 65.5 inches, a waistline of 66 inches, and hips that measure 69 inches. Sotela also offers the jumpsuit in three inseams: petite (for those under five-four), regular (for those between five-four and five-seven), and tall (for those over five-seven).
For a designer piece, Elizabeth loves Rachel Antonoff’s floral-patterned Matthew jumpsuit, which has a drawcord waist and goes up to a size 3XL. “My hands-down favorite designer for jumpsuits is Rachel Antonoff,” seconds Chiwaya, who describes herself as a “jumpsuit collector” and owns three of Antonoff’s designs (she has her eye on the emerald tiger-print Ziggy jumpsuit, which also goes up to a size 3XL, as a fourth). “Her line, in general, is amazing, but the attention to fit on the jumpsuits makes them the cream of the proverbial crop,” Chiwaya says, explaining that Antonoff works with KEDIC Workshop for its plus-size grading, so everything is made for an actual plus-size body, which “makes all the difference.”
“I would strongly argue that every wardrobe needs a well-made linen jumpsuit, and if your closet is lacking, Beaton Linen makes the best ones,” says Elizabeth. While Beaton Linen sources its materials from Europe, the pieces themselves are sewn in Vancouver. This jumpsuit goes up to a size 3XL and the linen feels “buttery soft,” promises Elizabeth, who says it’s just “a turtleneck away from being your work-from-home uniform” this fall.
In our recent roundup of the best straight-size jumpsuits, designer and illustrator Tuesday Bassen told us that she “finds a lot of fashion jumpsuits pull majorly in the front.” That’s not the case with her preferred jumpsuits from Handy Ma’am, a brand that she says “takes curvy bodies into account” with details like adjustable waists and back tabs. While this pair of coveralls is no doubt a splurge, the “functional, rugged, work-wear focused” garment is designed to meet the needs of women who work in a variety of physically demanding trades, so it’ll certainly hold up over time. The coveralls are available in up to a size XXL.
Artist Chinn Wang calls Ilana Kohn one of her “favorite brands” — and she’s in good company: Kohn’s jumpsuits are worn by everyone from sculptor Bari Zipperstein to Bon Appetit editor Molly Baz. Wang owns a whopping ten of its jumpsuits, including these Tuck Coveralls, which are available in up to a size 3XL and she says were roomy enough to “fit like a dream” over her growing belly when she was eight months pregnant. “I wear them for everything: making art, teaching, artist lectures, lounging at home, playing with my kids,” she says, adding that they are “absolutely perfect” for just about any occasion (even though they feel like pajamas).
