My dad gave me lots of things and white-colored hair is one of them. My hair’s natural color is white, or like an Anderson Cooper gray. That works for Anderson Cooper, but it does not work for me. Lots of women are pretty hush-hush about dyeing their hair and having gray hair. But I’m the opposite: I dye my hair, so what? And it is all dyed. Because my hair is actually gray, it has to be dyed dark first before it can be dyed blonde. I try to have it still look natural, but the color is not real.
Women who do go out with gray hair will have a delicate, pretty kind of gray, or little flecks of gray, which can also be kind of pretty. If my roots were a pretty gray, I would embrace them and feel great about it. But when my roots come in, they look translucent. The roots are so white that they blend right into my scalp. It almost looks like my hair has fallen out, which is not attractive. Ryan, my colorist, spends countless hours trying to make my hair a color other than that of a piece of paper. It’s a long process.
When I don’t want my white roots popping through, I use this. I have tried a lot of similar products before — like, every other one on the market — and take it from me, this one is the best. The spray requires little effort, looks good, and is so fast: Spray it on the parts you need, and you’re done. You have to hold the spray in the right spot, and I zhuzh it a little bit afterward so that it doesn’t look like spray paint, but there are directions on the bottle that tell you how to use it. I use it all the time, for a lot of different events, and the light-to-medium blonde color matches my hair so well. I never have to worry about people being like, “Is her hair falling out?”
In addition to Kelly’s preferred color, the root cover-up spray is available in a two-pack in this dark blonde color, as well as in two-packs of light blonde, medium blonde, dark blonde, dark brown, light-to-medium brown, golden brown, light brown, red, and black.
