Joe the Plumber has landed in Israel to cover the conflict with Gaza, and he’s already offering up some of those counterintuitive, head-scratching sound bites that, presumably, Pajamas Media was hoping for when it sent him in lieu of, you know, a reporter. During his tour of a cache of expired Hamas rockets in Sderot (a tradition for visitors), Mr. Plumber pontificated at length as he was encircled by a gaggle of photographers and real press — his preferred setting for pontificating at length. With a solid six minutes of journalistic experience under his belt, Joe critiqued his peers’ coverage of the conflict — specifically, that it wasn’t propagandized enough. “You know, I liked back in World War I and World War II when you’d go to the theater and you’d see your troops on, you know, the screen and everyone would be real excited and happy for ‘em.” You nailed it, Joe. The ideal role of the press in wartime is to get people excited. But what if they’re doing more than that, if they insist on digging into the situation? “I think media should be abolished from, uh, you know, reporting.” Remind us again why this guy isn’t a congressman yet?
