Nancy Kerrigan, the figure skater who became a household name back in the nineties when the ex-husband of her Olympic rival attempted to do away with her by whacking her in the knees, has a new terrible drama in her life: Last night, her 45-year-old brother Mark was arrested for assault after their father died following an altercation with his allegedly drunk son.
Apparently:
“He (Mark Kerrigan) stated that he wanted to use the phone and his father would not let him,” according to a Stoneham police report filed in court and obtained by the Boston Globe. “He said that he struggled with his father and put his hands around his father’s neck and his father fell to the floor. He said that his father was faking it.”
Something more must’ve happened, because police had to subdue Mark (who has had a contentious relationship with his parents in the past) with pepper spray, and this morning he was charged with assault and battery “with a dangerous weapon” on an elderly person. But Brenda Kerrigan, Nancy’s mother, insisted to ABC News that her husband died from a heart attack. “I’ll tell you something, it’s a shock,” she said.
