Brooklyn Teacher Fatally Stabbed in Staten Island During Home Invasion

Twenty-nine-year-old public school teacher Simeonette Mapes-Crupi was stabbed to death in her Staten Island condominium in New Springville on Thursday, possibly the victim of a home robbery as the house was “in disarray,” according the Daily News. She began teaching in Brooklyn schools in 2006, and since 2009 worked at the School for Classics in eastern Brooklyn, where her husband also works as an English teacher. The police have not made any arrests as of this time. The Times reports that Mapes-Crupi recently posted on Facebook about a shooting near her school: “To all the wanna be gangstas of Staten Island (who say they are from Brooklyn but really aren’t), be grateful you have what you have and stop trying to live a lifestyle you will never understand.”
