Despite Governor Chris Christie’s opposition to turning his state’s schools into “armed camps for kids,” Mayor Jonathan Hornik of New Jersey’s Marlboro Township announced on Friday that he will station armed security guards in his district’s nine schools starting January 2. Hornik’s decision came out just hours after NRA’s public call for every school to get at least one gun, so it’s not clear whether he came up with the idea on his own or not. “This is not such a major change,” Hornik insisted. “We’re not putting in SWAT teams.” Either way, Wayne LaPierre will definitely be sending over some Christmas cookies and a thank you note.
